Dating in a relationship single

Not only had I committed to this me, this single teary, jubilant, adventurous me, I had committed to these girls. Which is why, now that I’m in a relationship, I find myself constantly apologising for it. I make sarcastic remarks about how nice our dates are.

Well, the good news is that drama is at a minimum with single mums.

If you like to play adult games, then single mums are the perfect playmates. Follow their example and you’ll appreciate the birds singing in the morning instead of cursing them. When they were going through hell, they did as the war-time Winston Churchill suggested, and kept going. Ever been worried by subtle threats of abandonment?

My natural reaction to this was always to suppress the urge to vomit and/or inflict bodily harm.

But now I hear myself thinking it and, worse, agreeing with it. What I’m struggling to do is reconcile the two different parts of me: the girl I knew and the girl I have to realise I’m becoming: a girlfriend. I’m thankful every day for my boyfriend but I’m also thankful I met him when I did.

When dating with kids it’s so important to be with someone who really understands your role as a parent and appreciates the fact that your child or children will often come first.

So whether the babysitter is late, or your child is sick and you have to cancel a date, you’ll be sure that your partner understands what it means to be dating a single mom or dad.

Except I shouldn’t, not anymore, because for over a year now I’ve been in a relationship. So why do I still stand up to be recognised in Queen Bey’s census of unattached females? I’m 28 on the home stretch to 30 and my boyfriend of the last year is, realistically, my first in over a decade.

This was the version of myself I had committed to, and the version my friends had grown accustomed to.

Single mums like to keep the story telling for when they’re taking the kids to bed. It’s a topic you’ll no doubt cover with a partner at some point, but there’s less pressure to on you both to talk about the biological clock. Enjoy the build-up, and the, ahem, release will be all the better.

Being honest in a relationship is refreshing and oh so easy. Some single mums may have escaped sexually unsatisfying marriages or partnerships, and will be looking to enjoy mind-blowing sex with someone new. When there’s a possibility of being rudely awoken at 4am, there’s little appeal in staying out until 3am. They’re also unlikely to go club-hopping or bar-crawling. Forget the Victorian ideal of the meek, submissive woman. Unfortunately, some people seem to get a kick out of it.

Single Parent Dating with Elite Singles also means that you don’t waste time communicating with singles that simply aren’t willing to date single parents; so you’ll have more time and energy for genuine, long-term potentials.
